Ragnadox Software is a sole proprietorship software development company that offers games and tools in a variety of fields running on a variety of platforms.
The current focus is on Steam games (see Burgleville). Past projects include PC games, Xbox games, mobile games, flash games, simulators, learning tools, various editors, and training tools.
All projects are developed by one person. This includes coding, graphics, level and character design, audio, animation, 3D modeling, porting and more. Development usually takes place after work or whenever I get a little free time. I usually only get an hour here or there, so it can take some time to complete a project.
When I develop, I start by planning everything with pen and paper. I then decide what tools are the best to use for the project. I think about the platform and the goal and the requirements and choose the appropriate language, SDK, libraries, etc. I use a dry erase board to sketch out menu flows and screen layouts.
I don't get into details at this point. Instead, I get a working prototype of some of the key project features. I use placeholders for the graphics and contrasting colored lines and shapes to see the range of things on the screen. Once the main functionality is working, I fill in the details. Plan the characters and levels, and add more content.
Then the graphics are updated. The goal at this step is to make everything look nice and polished. Sound and music is added, and nice little touches and flashy things (particle effects, point sprites, screen transitions). Also, there is a final round of extreme testing (where I actually try to break the app)!
Finally, there is the deployment and distribution. Third-party stuff may be thrown in (Google Wallet, ads, online backup, etc). Then I push to the target publishers for each platform (Google Play, etc.) and wait for reviews and fedback. I hope everyone likes it!
This project was started long ago to help taxi drivers communicate with each other and with their passengers - but I didn't follow through, and now it's too late because Uber exists. They launched while my project was still in development :(
Here are some prototype videos to understand the concept.
Before any development took place, the project was planned and implemented in paper! Check out this stop motion video...
Simple graphics and placeholders are used to test basic functionality.
Hi, I'm Raymond. I've been a software engineer for over a decade. I've worked at Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, and a bunch of startups.
Ragnadox Software was my first software development company. I later founded a few others (like Veritable Reviews). When I came back to game development to make Burgleville, I knew I wanted to publish it under Ragnadox.
I'd like to thank my family for putting up with me when I get distracted deep into a project.
All Ragnadox Software products (except Burgleville) are free. If you enjoy our products and you'd like to help support the development of our next big project, a donation is always welcome :)
Note: I haven't tested this donation link in a long time. If you're actually considering a donation, maybe consider just buying Burgleville instead :)
